In New York City many apartments have steam heat, and the steam pipes are often run outside walls. This causes a problem with bathroom tile floors because the expansion and contraction of the pipes can crack the tile. This is the pipe in my daughter's Brooklyn apartment:

To resolve this I made an oval shape with a center hole just large enough for the pipe to go through, and just high enough to fit under the open bathroom door when it is open. Of course I had to cut the shape in half so I could fit it around the pipe; here is the results.
