Winter has arrived to Budapest. The dragons and the Iron Throne from the well-known series were printed for the premiere with the Hungarian 3D printer developed by Craftbot. The 3D printed figures, coins and bookmarks with the Game of Thrones family crest were given away on the premiere event organised by HBO GO. The Game of Thrones premiere was not the first collaboration with a super production in the history of Craftbot.
Craftbot built a GOT designed Craftbot plus, which was the main prize in the social media giveaway. This campaign was also a teaser of the uniquely designed Craftbot printers that customers can order from the company if they want to have individualized versions of the 3D printers (for example a printer designed with a company logo).
The complexity of the Game of Thrones figures challenged the engineers of Craftbot since the detailed 3D figures required years of experience and craftsmanship from the Hungarian specialists. In the case of 3D printed dragons it was necessary to print supporting elements for the hanging parts like the dragon's chin. With this technique the supporting elements should be removed after the figure is complete which leave marks on the printed figures.
With Craftbot there are more solutions for this: To use Craftware – the free slicer software of Craftbot, can have an “automatic” setting for the supports, or use it in “advanced” mode, and set the supports manually.
And fortunately, Craftbot had also a dual printer: Craftbot 3 (previous model of Craftbot Flow IDEX printers), and can easily print object with 2 materials – one with PLA or some GOT object were printed from PET, and the second material was PVA - dissolves in water as a support. With this exceptional craftsmanship the elaboration of the 3D figures remained perfect.
Csaba Mákos, the managing director of the company is also a big fan of Game of Thrones: „The entire planning process was very exciting, but I immediately knew that we are at the right path with the Craftbot when I saw the enthusiasm for the 3D printing at the premiere.”
Closing our GOT giveaway social campaign, we have met our winners personally, and handed over the GOT designed Craftbot Plus to its new owner, Izabella, who has never tried 3D printing before. She is a very big fan of the series, we hope she also will love 3D printing.
